Philosophy of Care

Holistic. Integrative. Regenerative.
We believe healthcare should look at the whole person, not simply a diagnosis or collection of symptoms. The body is interconnected, and physical health does not exist separately from our emotional, mental, and spiritual well-being. Our approach begins by listening to the individual, understanding their unique health history, lifestyle, goals, and experiences, and looking at the bigger picture of what may be contributing to imbalance.

We believe there is no single approach to health that works for everyone. Integrative care allows us to draw from both conventional medicine and traditional healing practices, thoughtfully combining different perspectives and therapies based on the needs of each individual. This may include Western medicine alongside approaches such as Traditional Chinese Medicine, Ayurveda, osteopathic and manual medicine, plant medicine, mindfulness, movement, breathwork, and other supportive therapies.
Our goal is not simply to manage symptoms, but to better understand the person experiencing them. We work collaboratively with our patients to explore the underlying factors affecting their health and develop individualized approaches that support their goals for both illness and wellness.

Regenerative care is rooted in the belief that the body has an inherent capacity to heal, adapt, and restore balance. Rather than focusing only on what is wrong, we also look at what the body needs to function at its best and how we can support those natural processes. Through personalized care, lifestyle practices, therapeutic approaches, and collaboration with other specialties when needed, we seek to create the conditions that allow the body and whole person to move toward greater health and vitality.

At Two Worlds Wellness, healing is a partnership. We meet each person where they are, honor the complexity of their individual experience, and bring together the knowledge, tools, and traditions that can best support their journey toward a healthier, more balanced life.

Dr. Nurse Paula Esteva Slack (Pow-lah) is a board-certified Doctor of Nursing Practice specializing in Adult Gerontology and Holistic and Integrative Medicine. She practices through her Ann Arbor, Michigan-based practice, Two Worlds Wellness, currently located within Integrative Healthcare Providers.

Dr. Paula began her healthcare career working at the VA at the age of 18 and went on to earn her Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She spent her nursing career working in cardiac and intensive care at several hospitals throughout Southeast Michigan, while also teaching at her alma mater across a wide range of clinical areas, including Mental Health, Cardiology, Cardiac Surgery, Orthopedics, Trauma, Transplant, Neurology, Urology, Oncology, and Pulmonology. She later earned her Doctor of Nursing Practice degree in Adult Gerontology from the University of Michigan-Flint.

Throughout her nursing career, Dr. Paula developed a passion for treating the whole person—not simply the disease or symptoms. Her clinical experience includes wound care, injections and IV therapy, patient education, chart review, patient consultation, and pre- and post-operative care. Her diverse training has led to a particular interest in complex chronic conditions, lifestyle medicine, mental health, manual medicine, and the connection between the mind and body.

Dr. Paula has studied 12 branches of medicine, including Allopathy, Osteopathy, Homeopathy, Integrative Medicine, Manual Medicine, Indigenous Medicine, Plant Medicine, Traditional Chinese Medicine, and Five Elements Theory, among others. Her approach brings together different perspectives and modalities based on each patient's individual needs. Depending on the person and their goals, she may incorporate Western medicine, Chinese medicine theory, Ayurveda, osteopathic manipulation, craniosacral therapy, ozone therapy, massage techniques, plant medicine, mindfulness, exercise, breathwork, positivity, sound and light therapy, as well as collaboration with other specialties.

She specializes in hormones, women's health, and weight management, while also maintaining a strong passion for musculoskeletal care. Drawing on her years of work with physical, manual, and massage therapists, as well as training under a Doctor of Osteopathy, Dr. Paula developed her own healing-touch technique, the Esteva Realignment Technique (ERT).
At the heart of Dr. Paula's practice is partnership. She believes in working alongside her patients through both illness and wellness to better understand the whole person and find individualized ways to support and optimize their health. She is passionate about recognizing the interconnectedness of physical, emotional, and spiritual dis-ease and creating space for a more complete approach to healing.
Dr. Paula's work extends beyond clinical medicine. She has trained as a Cacao Facilitator with Cuatro Manos y Cinco Volcanes and is currently a student of One Who Catches Lightning and Keeper of Thunderstone at the Path of Ix.
Born in Ann Arbor and spending her summers in Mexico City, Dr. Paula is fluent in Spanish and has a lifelong love of languages and cultures. Outside of her practice, she is a wife and mother of two young children, as well as a dog mom to two dogs. In her free time, she enjoys singing, yoga, music, sports, nature, crafting, and—above all—amazing food.
